Namaz e janaza ki Dua With Urdu & English Translation

Namaz-e-Janaza is the Islamic prayer offered for a person who has passed away. It is performed in a group to ask Allah to forgive the sins of the deceased and grant them peace in the afterlife. It consists of four Takbeers (saying “Allahu Akbar”) and three different supplications that are read silently by everyone standing.

اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنثَانَا،
اللّٰهُمَّ مَنْ أَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ، وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الإِيمَانِ،

اے اللہ! ہمارے زندوں اور مرنے والوں کو، حاضر اور غائب کو، چھوٹے اور بڑے کو، مرد اور عورت کو بخش دے۔
اے اللہ! جسے تو زندہ رکھے اسے اسلام پر زندہ رکھ، اور جسے تو وفات دے اسے ایمان پر وفات دے۔

O Allah! Forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and our females.
O Allah! Whomever You keep alive from among us, keep him alive upon Islam, and whomever You cause to die, cause him to die upon faith.

Benefits of Offereing Namaz-e-Janaza

• It is a means of forgiveness for the deceased and brings peace and mercy from Allah.
• The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
  “If a Muslim dies and forty men who do not associate anything with Allah pray over him, Allah will accept their intercession for him.” (Sahih Muslim)
• It is also a reminder of death for the living, encouraging them to stay humble, righteous, and conscious of the Hereafter.
• The one who participates in the Janaza prayer receives a reward equal to one Qirat (mountain of gold), and attending the burial gives two Qirats (as mentioned in Hadith — Sahih al-Bukhari).

When to Read Namaz-e-Janaza

Namaz-e-Janaza is offered after the body has been bathed (Ghusl) and shrouded (Kafan), before the burial. It is usually performed in an open area or mosque courtyard.
It should be read:

• During daytime or night, except during the three prohibited times for prayer (sunrise, midday, and sunset).
• It can be performed individually or in congregation, but Jamaat (congregation) is recommended as it brings greater mercy.

Importance of Namaz-e-Janaza

• This prayer strengthens the bond of brotherhood among Muslims, as they unite to pray for one another even after death.
• It fulfills a religious and social responsibility in Islam.
• It shows respect and honor for the deceased.
• It is an act of kindness, mercy, and remembrance that benefits both the dead and the living.
• For children who die before maturity, the dua asks Allah to make them a source of reward and intercession for their parents in the Hereafter.
