The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“When a person becomes angry, he should say: A‘udhu billahi minash shaitanir rajim (I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan) — his anger will go away.”

When to Recite This Dua

  • When you feel anger rising in your heart.
  • During arguments or disputes.
  • When someone says or does something hurtful.
  • Anytime you find it difficult to stay calm.

Additional Actions to Control Anger (as taught by the Prophet ﷺ)

  • If you are standing, then sit down.
  • If you are sitting, then lie down.
  • Perform wudu (ablution), because anger is from fire, and water extinguishes fire.
  • Stay silent and avoid saying hurtful words.
