In the journey of life, facing the death of loved ones is a painful reality. In these moments of loss, our faith guides us towards actions that can bring solace to our hearts and benefit the departed. One of the primary ways Islam instructs Muslims to respond to death is by offering a Dua Maghfirat, or prayer for the forgiveness of the dead.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
Upon hearing about someone’s passing, it is a common practice to recite the verse from the Quran:
In Urdu
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un
In English
Verily, we belong to Allah, and verily to Him, we shall return
Dua for the Deceased

Allaahumma man 'ahyaytahu minnaa fa'ahyihi 'alal-'Islaami, wa man tawaffaytahu minnaa fatawaffahu 'alal-'eemaani, Allaahumma laa tahrimnaa 'ajrahu wa laa tudhillanaa ba'dahu
English Translation:
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are with us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our menfolk and our womenfolk. O Allah, whomever you give life from among us give him life in Islam, and whomever you take away from us take him away in Faith. O Allah, do not forbid us their reward, and do not send us astray after them.
